DR. ABBIE NEVES

PhD, APRN-Rx, PMHCNS-BC

Dr. Abbie J. Neves is Board Certified as a Child-Adolescent Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist and is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with prescriptive authority. Her education includes training in Advanced Play Therapy and a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD Degree in Nursing from University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Her dissertation was entitled “The Butterfly Effect - The Essential Structure of the Lived Experience of College Students who are Family Members of Veterans with PTSD Who Served in the Iraqi-Afghanistan Armed Conflicts: Intergenerational Trauma.”

 

Dr. Neves is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa School of Nursing. She has over 15 years of experience providing psychiatric mental health services to children and adolescents of all ages and cultures. She is experienced in psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, psychiatric medication evaluation, medication management, and various modalities of therapy. Although medication is optional, if a patient chooses medication as part of their treatment plan, she uses Psychotropic Pharmacogenomic Testing in order to help patients select a medication with the least amount of gene-drug interaction. She incorporates complimentary-alternative therapies into her practice and her approach is holistic, compassionate, and non-judgmental. She is passionate about improving the mental health of Hawaii’s keiki and their ‘ohana.

 

Dr. Neves was born and raised in Hawai’i and is the proud mother of 4 children and grandmother of 7 grandchildren with whom she spends her free time with. Her hobbies include art, music, reading, nature immersion, swimming, and playing with her many fur and feather babies.
